General Scholarship Fund
The Scholarship Fund at the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center
provides financial support for families, single - parent families
and/or individuals in need of assistance for daycare, pre-school,
camp or membership. In 2010, the Suffolk Y JCC granted close
to $250,000 in scholarship requests to people just like you,
maybe a member of your family, a neighbor or a friend. This
financial assistance has enabled individuals and families
to utilize the programs and services they require at the Suffolk
Y JCC.

Contributions to the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center are
a great way to honor someone special, celebrate an occasion,
or memorialize a loved one. Gifts can be used for scholarships
or for other purposes depending on the wishes of the donor.
Prompt personal letters of acknowledgment are sent for these
(and all!) gifts. When sending a gift in honor or in memory
of someone, please indicate the purpose of the gift and the
name and address of the person to be notified. An appropriate

Children’s Wall Donation
Honor your children and/or grandchildren with a gift of $180
to the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center. Each plaque on the
“Children’s Wall” (three lines maximum –
22 characters per line) will list the child’s name birth
date and donor. Your support will benefit programs and services
for children at the Suffolk Y JCC.
Camp Alumni Drive
Each year, we receive contributions from our camp alumni,
parents and friends toward our scholarship appeal. These gifts
provide direct support to families, allowing them to attend
one of the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center’s camp
programs. In 2010 alone, the SYJCC awarded over $132,000 in
assistance to children who would not otherwise have been able
to attend camp.

The National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame
The National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, located
at the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center, is dedicated to
honoring Jewish sports figures who have distinguished themselves
in the field of sports. The objective is to foster Jewish
identity through athletics. In a world where stereotype and
prejudice have not yet been eradicated, the Hall of Fame reminds
us of heroes of the courts and playing fields who have emerged
from a people not commonly associated with sports.

Capital Gifts
The Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center has many opportunities
for endowing scholarships, or programs, as well as naming
gifts for buildings or recreational facilities. We also welcome
major gifts to fund donor-initiated projects. Gifts of $1,200
or more will be recognized on the Founder’s Wall in
our Main Lobby.
Planned Giving
Planned giving can benefit your family and support, enhance
and enrich programs at the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center.
Information on endowments, bequests, charitable reminder trusts,
etc., are available in the Development Office.
Gifts of Stock
Charitable contributions to the Suffolk Y Jewish Community
Center are tax-deductible. However, there is an additional
benefit to giving appreciated stock. If you hold marketable
securities that would result in a long-term capital gain if
sold, their outright gift to SYJCC could mean significant
tax savings since you are not required to pay capital gains
tax on securities you donate, but can still deduct the full
value of the gift.
Matching Gifts
A number of organizations participate in charitable matching
gift programs. If your company provides this opportunity to
double or even triple your gift, include a matching gift form
from your personnel office with your gift to The Suffolk Y
Jewish Community Center.
